The Way We Rise by Cassia Leo (Review)

the way we rise

About the Book

The highly anticipated conclusion to the USA Today bestselling Story of Us series.

With Liam’s fate no longer in the balance, Rory and Houston are poised on the precipice of a life-altering decision. When Rory’s father arrives in California to comfort Rory and make amends, Houston finds the decision becomes much easier to make.

When Houston suggests they take a break Rory thinks he must be joking. But he’s not. And his timing couldn’t be worse.

With Houston and Rory vowing to keep their new friendship strictly outside of the bedroom, their friends and family seize the opportunity to draw out the torture and surprises. Ensuring that Houston and Rory’s story has an ending they’ll never forget.

Author’s Note: This is the final book in the series. No more cliffhangers. This is essentially two books in one: the final installment in the series and a novella-length epilogue. Also note, this series is not recommended for readers under the age of 18 due to strong language, violence, sexual content, and adult situations.

My Thoughts

The Way We Rise is the perfect ending to a wondefully written trilogy. Can I say that I’m honestly just a little bit sad that The Story of Us Series has come to an end? I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rory and Houston’s story and this entire series was phenominal!

As you might remember in my review of The Way We Break I said that the ending was “Code Blue. Code Blue. First Floor. Room I-1-5-3.
Repeat. Code Blue. First Floor. Room I-1-5-3.”. We finally learn of Liam’s fate and how Rory copes with it.

I was a little later on reading this book than I would have preferred, because I didn’t preorder it like I did the previous 2 books, but let me tell you, it was worth the wait. As I said above, I’m pretty sad to see this series come to an end!

Ms. Cassia Leo, I am in awe. I honestly couldn’t picture a more perfect ending to this series. The amazing novella length epilogue was, for lack of better word, epic.

Once you read this book, if you haven’t already, you will understand what I mean when I say that there is a part towards the ending that had me holding my breath. I didn’t know what was going to happen, and I truly hoped that I wasn’t going to burst out in sad tears from the result. I did have tears, but super happy tears 🙂

I will have to say that I have never heard of a cemetary that locks its gates at night (where I’m from, I’m not sure any of them do… but I could be wrong..) but if I ever had to get locked in a cemetary over night with my husband, I would want it to end like Rory and Houston’s trip to the cemetary did!

Have everything you might need near you when you start reading this book. Water, some snacks, kleenex, etc…. because you aren’t going to want to put it down.

I wondered if we would read anything about how Tessa was doing in this book & Cassia Leo did not disappoint!
