Valentine Hound Dog by Rachelle Ayala

If you love sweet romances (PG-rating), look no further than Rachelle Ayala’s Have a Hart series. The Harts are a family of San Francisco firefighters. Their family motto is: Heart comes first.

Former fireman Larry Davison covers his burn scars well, by working at an elementary school as a custodian where he finds a lost hound dog behind the dumpster.

Fashion designer Jenna Hart is in town to do a charity fashion show when she loses her top model, Little Treat. When Larry turns up with the puppy, she asks him to be in the show and bachelor auction.

Larry’s not sure he belongs in a fashion show and balks at being her good deed. Can Jenna convince Larry beauty is never skin deep and love’s arrow strikes not only the beautiful, but the bold?

The Hart family will delight you with clean and wholesome love stories, filled with family, friends [both people and animals].

Valentine Hound Dog is Book #2 of the Have A Hart Romance Series. It can be read standalone, although characters from the previous books appear here in supporting roles.

My Thoughts

Harley holds a special place in my heart. Growing up, my grandmother had a couple Basset Hound dogs. When I was born, Biscuit had been a part of the family for a long time. When he passed away, we were all heartbroken, though I don’t remember that very well. She got George as a puppy from my Uncle and his wife at the time, I think I was 8-9 or so and still living with her. They’re so cute when they’re at the puppy stage, and are running and falling over their ears. It was very easy for me to imagine how George was when the author explained Harley running, falling over his ears and barking.

Larry is a guy that will absolutely melt your heart. He is a true hero, a past firefighter and he is definitely not afraid to save lives. Despite being burned over 50% of his body in a house fire, where he wasn’t able to save all the victims, and living in a burn unit for over a year, he still is very handsome. The way he did his research on Basset Hound dogs, and the way he treats Harley makes him seem like the kind of guy who is a true animal lover.

Jenna, on the other hand, is a true fashionista. Not only is she willing to do whatever it takes to keep her popular reputation, she ends up falling in love with Larry, who works as a Janitor at the local school.

Without giving away too much of what happens in the book, things happen and Larry sees things in Jenna that really aren’t there. He says some very hurtful things to her, breaks her heart and her family can’t decide who’s “side” they are on, as Larry has been a long time family friend, and is best buds with Jenna’s brother, Connor!

Read this book to find out whether Jenna and Larry are able to make their relationship work or if Larry’s words hurt Jenna too  much for her to forgive him!

  2. Thank you so much for your review. I enjoyed reading about your memories of your grandma’s dog. I think basset hound puppies are just about the cutest puppies ever. There’s just something so adorable about those long ears, the loose skin, the floppiness and the way they want to cuddle with you. Glad you enjoyed the story.
